We stayed there last night. The location is great, on the south side of the city. The building is strikingly plain but in a row of extremely beautiful art nouveau buildings, a dream to behold. The entrance to this hotel features two doors. You have to go through the first locked door to be checked in by a bespectacled woman who scrutinised us behind a glass screen, just like an East German border guard, which woman subsequently - enhancing the East German border guard-effect - demanded both passports. These were both photocopied behind a cupboard door without asking our permission or explaining why this was necessary, in breach of the Directive on the Protection of Personal Information. After this we were admitted to the rooms through the second locked door. On the way out, we had to leave by another exit, observed by a man wearing a white coat. As many other reviewers have noted, there are practically no facilities in the room, at least none of the little details which feel like a welcome when visiting a city. No city map, no facilities to make tea in the room (or anywhere else), no hairdryer, no handsoap in the bathroom. The room was far too warm so we opened the window to keep the room cool, which we meant we listened all night to a noise which sounded exactly like the noise of a person digging a tunnel. So my advice to all visitors to this hotel: bring your own soap, hairdryer and kettle, some earplugs and invite along a lawyer to give good advice on the unlawful retention of personal information. On the plus side, there is a lift, which although very small was in working order, there appear to be good fire escapes and I have no negative comments about cleanliness. Also we had no disturbance from other guests although possibly this is because there weren’t any. Despite the assets mentioned I shall not be returning.
